Who We Are

The Pooler Juneteenth Celebration Committee (PJCC) is a not-for-profit Georgia corporation formed in 2021 by community leaders who felt a need to recognize the important milestone of Juneteenth in American history. PJCC’s objective is to celebrate the end of slavery in America and educate the public on the significance of the date. In addition, the Pooler Juneteenth Celebration recognizes the strides we have made in America toward ending racism and a recognition of how much there is yet to be accomplished. We will achieve this by providing free workshops in a festive setting at no cost to the public conducted by African American historians, poets, musicians, and storytellers who will depict the beginning of slavery through the Civil Rights era and where America stands today.

Our Mission and Vision

The mission of the PJCC is to acknowledge the end of slavery in the United States by providing an annual celebration that honors the fortitude of African Americans and by offering an experience that will educate the public of the significance of this day.

Our vision is an annual celebration that:

Continues to grow in popularity and influence. Making it a marque event for the City of Pooler.

Continues to affirm Black humanity and celebrates Black freedom.

Allows all Americans the opportunity to give thanks for the blessings of independence and freedom for African Americans.

Educates and inspires young African Americans about the struggles, courage, and sacrifices to ensure their freedom.

Reminds us of how much our country has accomplished in righting the wrongs of slavery and how much more there is yet to do.

Emphasizes that the quest for the more perfect union must continue.
